How To Have A Good Day
One thing I’ve learned recently in my life, and especially during these past few months, is how important the start of your day is. How you start your day sets the tone for how you will feel the rest of the day. Lately I have been trying to put an emphasis on starting my day right and beginning with things that make me feel good and make me happy. This usually consists of a cup or coffee (or three), a good breakfast, a clean face, and some sort of productive task. This past weekend, I chose to start my day with a little bit of exercise. My boyfriend and I got up nice and early, drove an hour and a half, and took a hike up a mountain. This may seem like a horrible idea to some people, but I swear it’s so rewarding and so worth it.
We chose Harpers Ferry because we really wanted to see the town from the overlook at the top of the Maryland Heights trail. The hike itself was a pretty good workout and definitely got our heart rate up and got a bit of sweat going. One thing I noticed is that it was definitely a good thing to go earlier, as it was less crowded and we ended up seeing a lot of big groups coming up while we were on our way back to the bottom. Going early was really nice in terms of the overlook because there was less crowding and a better view. It was so stunning and so peaceful.
Meeting New Year’s Goals
This year has definitely been something else, but I am finally able to focus on the goals I made in the beginning of the year more in depth. One of my goals was to go out and hike more often. This was something I really wanted to do because I find that it’s a unique and different way of getting exercise in, it’s good for your body to get fresh air, and it allows for quiet time without phone distractions. Having had too much time to sit on my phone mindlessly the past months, this hike was so refreshing because I finally got away from that. I was so happy to be having good, meaningful conversations in such a gorgeous place. I felt so overwhelmed with joy and happiness and so blessed to be able to appreciate that view and be in that moment, and it was a reminder of why I set that goal for myself in the first place. Spending my morning like this brought me back down, grounded me, and helped me be grateful for everything I am able to do. It made me feel so lucky to live the life that I do and have the people that surround me in my life. Doing this brought so much peace and slowed down time and it was just the greatest feeling.
Take the time to slow down, get out in nature, and reconnect with the people in your life. It’s good for the mind, good for the soul, and good for the heart. It’s the best way to start your day and a good step to living a happier and healthier life.
